Dekna laughs off rumours
MALAY MAIL: Aryanna Najwa Ahmad or Dekna dismissed rumours that fellow contestant, Hasfarizal Ayub, or Rizal, had slept over at her place.
“He did come over but there were many of us. Nothing happened,” the 19-year-old Penangite told The Malay Mail.
She also denied that she is facing problems with her fiance as a result of her supposed relationship with Rizal. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We’re friends and nothing more. There is nothing special, honestly.” She laughed off the rumours, saying that it was a misunderstanding and that the situation had been blown out of proportion.
For those who caught the final concert of the fifth season of Akademi Fantasia, one nagging thought must surely have been on their minds. Was Dekna crying for real as she belted out the late Sudirman Haji Arshad’s Pelangi Petang during the medley by eliminated contestants? The performance slot came on not long after a video clip of supposed flirtations in the Akademi, which included her and Sarawakian Rizal.
Fans of the programme would know that Dekna was said to have been having problems with her fiance, Mohd Fazli Ayub, after a video clip suggesting an affair between her and Rizal was first aired during the fifth concert. In the same concert, where Fazli was present and Dekna was eliminated, a video recording of Dekna asking Rizal whether he liked her or not, to which he replied in the affirmative, was also aired.
Ironically, in the same concert, she belted out Rihanna’s ‘Unfaithful’.
Since then, rumours had it that their ‘friendship’ had become more intimate, to a point that Dekna was said to have been warned by her family to return to Penang to talk things over with her 24-year-old fiance, a policeman based in Georgetown.
“No, I wasn’t crying,” she said. “The mood I took on was strictly for the delivery of the song. It had nothing to do with any video clip. Did they even show one? I was backstage preparing for our slot and didn’t notice they had played the clip again.” She admitted that in the case of her fiance, jealousy had reared its ugly head, but she was quick to add that things were under control.
“He did ask me if there was anything going on between me and Rizal. We talked things over and we are fine now. He understands what is going on and everything is normal,” she said. Dekna admitted her returning home to Penang recently was to have a heart-to-heart talk with her fiance, and not to call off their wedding as some rumours suggested. “We are still together and while we have not set a date for the wedding, we are still engaged,” she said. “The date has yet to be set, and I don’t know what to say other than to just wait for it.”
