Name: Sharifah Amani. Sharifah Amani is the second daughter of veteran Malaysian actress Fatimah Abu Bakar. Sharifah Amani is of Malay-Chinese-Arab-Benggali parentage and speaks fluent English, Malay and some Hindi. Very passionate about acting and films in particular Hindi films. A teen writer for News Straits Times's YouthQuake. She covered assignments like the Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla press conference, concerts by Bollywood stars, Deep Purple and the 3rd IIFA Awards in genting Highlands. Dabbled in theatre, having acted as 'Ophelia' in Bangsar Actors Studio's Hamlet (2005), directed by Faridah Merican. Leading star in movie 'Sepet' and 'Gubra' under the same director, Yasmin Ahmad. Claimed to be a very private person. Her opinions always pack a punch. She's well-read, mature and educated. She talks passionately and intelligently about social issues both international and local.

Sharifah Aleya is her sister. At five years old, Sharifah Amani already running around in the background of Shuhaimi Baba's films. During a dinner with family friend Jit Murat, Yasmin Ahmad saw her and seeing in her the character she wanted for Orked (the heroin in movie 'Sepet'). Yasmin Ahmad asked her good friend Jit Murad to get Sharifah Amani for an audition. The rest is history.

Controversy: In 2006 at the 19th Malaysian Film Festival, when accepting her award as Best Actress she said "I sound like stupid if I speak Malay, so I'll speak English." Many were angry with her foolish statement. But Sharifah Amani claimed that she was misquoted when her statement was translated by the Malay media.
